Here’s a list of the commonest Japanese terms used in aikido practice. (See also Wikipedia.)

取り/投げ	Tori/nage	Person throwing
受け	Uke	Person receiving
受身	Ukemi	Falling/receiving

回転	Kaiten	Turning (change direction)
転換	Tenkan	Turning (slip, turn)
入身転換	Irimi tenkan	Entering tenkan (step, turn)
膝行	Shikkō	Knee walking
Directions
左, 右	Hidari, migi	Left, right
前, 後	Mae, ushiro	Front, behind
内, 外	Uchi, soto	Inside, outside
表, 裏	Omote, ura	Facing front, turning to rear
上段, 中段, 下段	Jōdan, chūdan, gedan	Upper, middle, lower
Stances
半身	Hanmi	Basic stance
逆半身	Gyaku hanmi	Opposite stances (one person with left foot in front, one right)
合半身	Ai hanmi	Matching stances (both left or right)
Types of technique
立ち技	Tachi waza	Standing techniques
座り技	Suwari waza	Sitting techniques
半身半立ち技	Hanmi handachi waza	One seated, one standing techniques
自由技	Jiyu waza	Free techniques
変化技	Henka waza	Variation/changing techniques

片手取り	Katate dori	One hand grab (either ai hanmi or gyaku hanmi
交差取り	Kōsa dori	Cross grab (= ai hanmi katate dori)
両手取り	Ryōte dori	Both hands grabbing (two grabbing two)
諸手取り	Morote dori	Both hands grabbing one
肩取り	Kata dori	Shoulder grab
正面打ち	Shōmen uchi	Strike (uchi) to front of head
横面打ち	Yokomen uchi	Strike (uchi) to side of head
突き	Tsuki	Straight punch
Pinning and throwing techniques
一教, 二教, 三教, 四教, 五教	Ikkyō, nikyō, sankyō, yonkyō, gokyō	First, second, third, fourth, fifth teaching (pinning techniques)
入身投げ	Irimi nage	Entering throw
四方投げ	Shihō nage	Four-direction (under-arm) throw
小手返し	Kotegaeshi	Wrist-reversing (throw)
天地投げ	Tenchi nage	‘Heaven and earth’ throw
